Our Story

In Zambia’s remote South Luangwa, two twenty-something Hampshire girls from England, found themselves running bushcamps at opposite ends of the park for years before they met. After guests staying at both their camps kept telling them how well they would get on, Priya and Zillah eventually met and became the greatest of friends.

They soon found that between them they had the potential to build something quite special together. Zillah had a yearning to create. With her love of scent, candles inspired by the natural surroundings were high on the list. Whilst Priya had a passion for African culture, traditions and its people. They both shared a fascination for the benefits of natural oils, an awe of the power within Zambian women, a love of trees and a desire to have a positive impact. And so a company ethos was emerging and Azimai was born.

Their kitchen was soon taken over with waxes, oils and wick and eventually their unique recipes were mastered. Enough confidence was built to move to a nearby workshop space where the doors were opened to the rest of the wonderful Azimai team.

It’s been quite a ride and years on, after a lot of learning, laughter and raising each other’s godchildren, Azimai has solidified what it stands for. Humble beginnings but big ideas...

Bringing the spirit of our ancient continent into your home, Azimai celebrates Africa’s rich heritage and its remarkable, resilient women for whom Azimai is named. We are a team of women who pride ourselves on our unique combinations of African oils and Zambian beeswax.
